HOW TO USE

Using the Noocity Home Vegetable Garden

You can grow almost any root or leaf vegetable in the Noocity Growbed, once the depth of the soil is about 25cm. Vegetables, fruits and herbs will happily grow in your Growbed, we’ve already harvest and ate delicious Eggplants, Carrots, Watermelons, Cucumbers, Beans, all kind of Tomatoes, Strawberries, Fennel, French garlic, Fresh onions, Radish, Lettuces, and much more.

Noocity has ascertained an average yield of 20kg /m2 per year.

The Noocity Growbed has been designed to avoid the common error of over or under watering plants. Since the water reservoir doesn’t run dry, your plants will be taking the exact amount of water they need, when they need it! Be aware that, different species have different needs on humidity. So, when buying the potting soil, ask for the one with the right water retention characteristics for the kind of vegetables you’re wanting to grow.

Due to it’s sub-irrigation system, watering your plants on the Noocity Growbed should be done only trough the supply tube. When planting Plug Plants you shoul take care during the first couple of days, watering them on top specially in hot days. If you use seeds instead of plug plants, you will have to make sure that the surface layer of the substract will keep humid until the plant starts to develop. For the rest, relax and enjoy because once the reservoir has water, the garden will do the watering by itself.

We recommend the use of plug plants, as the plant has already started to form and require less care than starting from scratch with seeds. Nevertheless, plug plants will require some special care during the first couple of days, is important water them from the top on first days. If you use seeds instead of plug plants, you will have to make sure that the surface layer of the substract will keep humid until the plant reaches the development of a plug plant.

You should fill the Noocity Growbed with the potting soil, right up to the top. Over time, the potting soil will compact down and the level will decrease by a couple of centimetres.

To check if your system is working fine, simply dig in with your hand and check if the under surface layer of soil is humid.

Expanded clay (Leka), or another highly absorbent inert material, is an essential complement for the sub-irrigation system, once it will allow the water to goes up from the reservoir to the cultivation area.

You should consider the use of some kind of organic fertilizer, at least one time per growing season. Your plants will quickly absorb liquid fertilizers, so do n’t forget to add them weekly. If you choose a granulated fertilizers, remember it will take a little more time to be available to the plants. You might find that, a combination of both liquid and granulated will reduce the risk for any nutritional deficiency.

A slight maintenance is enough, you can simply wash with water, using the hose, or wipe the aluminium frame with a cloth. If you would like a deeper cleaning, remove the soil and expanded clay, and get it perfectly clean with pressured water.

Never! You will only need to add nutrients to the soil. After harvesting your crops, use an organic fertilizer to nourish the soil before you start the next growing season.

Instalamos a nossa primeira Horta Noocity em 2013 e continua a funcionar na perfeição!

When installing your Noocity Growbed, and before filling it up with the expanded clay, please choose the final spot where you want to leave it. Dragging the bed after filling the capillarity compartments will spread the expanded clay and ruin how the sub-irrigation system works. If you want to change your Growbed from one place to another, you’ll have to take the substrate and expanded clay out in order to move it.

We strongly recommend you to use the Noocity Growbed outdoor, so that you can grow healthy vegetables and herbs. If you find it attractive to put indoor, please make sure you choose the right plants to those conditions. Remember, most of the edible plants require at least 3 hours of sunlight.

Noocity Growbed has no problem facing hard winters or hot summers. Even if the reservoir is totally filled, it’s still has an extra cm of “air gap”, this will allow the water to expand in case it freezes, without making any damage to the Noocity Growbed. Hot sunny summer wont be a problem as well, you might notice a different tone of blue if your Growbed is too exposed to sun.

CORPORATE

How do the Noocity Vegetable Gardens work for businesses?

Assembling Noocity’s Vegetable Garden doesn’t require any building work; all you need is a spot with plenty of sunlight, that does not slope too much, and with access to water.

On average, it takes one day to assemble a Noocity Corporate Vegetable Garden completely and prepare it with plants/seeds.

Noocity has recruited/trained a team of ‘growers’ that are passionate about urban agriculture. They are responsible for periodically visiting the Corporate Vegetable Gardens, ensuring that they are suitably maintained, and for preparing regular activities.

If you are in the restaurant or hotel business you can use them in the kitchen, or distribute them among your employees, or give them to social support institutions. There are so many Organic, fresh and creative ideas.

Of course they can! In fact, that is one of Noocity’s main objectives. Help people connect with nature and bring the benefits of the countryside to the city! Which is why we have developed regular workshops and activities for such easy and intuitive involvement.
